Quick User Guide for Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0

Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0 is quite different from the previous releases. This quick user guide is meant to show the steps required to perform a standard OPC Data Acquisition. However, for a full capacity use of Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0, review of the complete documentation is mandatory ... Links are provided, through this guide, to give detailed informations.
  • Download and Install Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0

  • Start Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0 from the desktop icon

  • Leave the Welcome View by clicking on the picture

  • Click on the Ribbon Button 'Select OPC Server

  • Select OPC Server from Ribbon

    Note that the OPC Server Selection can be triggered by Right-Clicking the Item labeled 'No OPC Server Selected'

  • Expand the item 'Local Host' by clicking on the '+' icon

  • Select the required OPC Server and Confirm by clicking the 'Ok' button

  • Select OPC Server from Ribbon

    Note that, on valid selection, the attributes of the OPC server are displayed at the bottom of the dialog box.

  • Click on the Ribbon Button 'Add OPC Group

  • Add OPC Group from Ribbon

    Note that the OPC Group Addition can be triggered by Right-Clicking the OPC Server and Selecting the Item 'Add OPC Group'

  • Accept the default attributes and Confirm by clicking the 'Ok' button

  • Accept OPC Group Attrbiutes

    Note that the Newly added OPC Group is automatically selected in the OPC Configuration Tree

  • Click on the Ribbon Button 'Add OPC Item(s)

  • Add OPC Item(s) from Ribbon

    Note that the OPC Item(s) Addition can be triggered by Right-Clicking the select OPC Group and Selecting the Item 'Add, Modify & Remove Acquired OPC Item(s)'

  • Browse the Hierarchy of the OPC Server and Select the Required OPC Data Object

  • Select Item(s) of OPC Server Data Object

    Note that the selection of the OPC Server Data Object ('Random' in the Print Screen) triggers the filling of the table of the available OPC Item(s) in the selected OPC Server Data Object.

  • Click on the 'Add' Button to Add the Selected Items()s to the List of OPC Item(s) of the Current OPC Group

  • Add OPC Item(s) to OPC Group

    Note that Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0 automatically builds the Fully Qualified Item Names and Create the Default Short Item Identifier. These identifiers will be used for Calculated OPC Items.

  • Click on the icon 'Data Acquisition and Storage' of the OutlookBar (located on the top left of the Application Window)
  • Click on the Ribbon Button 'Start Data Acquisition

  • Start Data Acquisition

    Note that Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0 stores the acquired data in a SQLite database named 'Genesis.sq3'. The OPC Data View displays the OPC data as the acquisition is proceeding.

  • Click on the icon 'OPC Data Visualization' of the OutlookBar (located on the top left of the Application Window)

  • Database Locked
    OPC Chart View


    Note that Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0 provides a large palette of options to customize the content and the display of the chart.

  • Click on the icon 'Data Acquisition and Storage' of the OutlookBar (located on the top left of the Application Window)

  • At any time, click on the Ribbon Button 'Stop Data Acquisition' when needed

  • Start Data Acquisition

    Note that Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0 finalizes the storage of the OPC data in the SQLite database (Genesis.sq3). These data are available later at any time for display, analysis and export.
